National Certificate: Plumbing N1-N3

Overview

The NATED N1-N3 Plumbing qualification is a qualification from Levels N1-N3 focussing on the theory of plumbing. This qualification meets the academic requirements for you to write your trade test once you have aquired the required practical hours. This qualification consist of one compusory part (N1-N3 theory) and and two optional practical parts, beginners level (done between N1-N3) and advanced (can be done after N3).

PART 1, N1-N3 Theory (Compulsory)


This part is compulsory. Students are required to complete all their N1-N3 theory subjects to atain their national certificate.

PART 2, Beginner Practicals (Optional Extra)


You can complete a BEGINNER level, 1 week program of optional practical hours within your field of study. This is done just after either N1 or before N3 and you will be given a certificate and logbook of the components that you have completed. 

PART 3, Advanced Practicals (Optional Extra)


You can complete a ADVANCED level, 1 week program  of optional practical hours within your field of study. This is done just after either N4 or before N6 and you will be given a certificate and logbook of the components that you have completed. Part 2 to be completed first.

Only 2% of all private and public TVET colleges have the facilities and capabilities to offer a practical component with their engineering studies, BUT a staggering 90% of the students that receives practical are employed.

Admission Requirements:

  • N1 Entry Requirement: Grade 9 (Std 7) Certificate with a pass in Mathematics and Physical Science OR no formal qualification required for everyone 23 years or older.

 

NOTE: Proceed to next level only when the previous level has been successfully completed i.e. N4 for N5, etc.

    Level N1-N3

    • Cost Per N-Level: R13 100.00  (Full Time & Part Time), R11 100.00  (Correspondence), Includes all manuals, courier cost, class access, portal access
    • Cost for Optional Practical Module: R3 500.00  (Done between trimesters, 5 working days/1 week)

     

    * Fees includes all manuals, courier cost, class access and portal access. 3 Month payment terms can be applied for. 

  • Duration

    • Full Time: 1 Trimester (3 Months) Per N-Level (4 Subjects)
    • Part Time: 2 Trimesters (6 Months) Per N-Level (4 Subjects)
    • Online: 2 Trimesters (6 Months) Per N-Level (4 Subjects)
    • Optional Practical: Beginners (N1-N3) 3 weeks/15 days, Advanced (N4-N6), 3 weeks/15 days, done between trimesters.

What you get

National Certificate:

 

  • The student will receive a national certificate form the Department of Education if all external department exams are passed. This certificate is not issued by us, but only by the department of education.

Disclaimer

Kindly note that we reserve the right to cancel/postpone any Full Time or Part Time subjects should the minimum required student numbers not be met. This will be communicated before the commencement of studies and all effort will be made to find suitable alternatives in such a scenario.

It should further be noted that should we not have sufficient number of students per subject for our Correspondence course that we reserve the right to provide the students with pre-recorded class videos and not live classes.  Students will however be able to post questions on their student portal for assistance.  This will be communicated before the commencement of studies.

PART 2, Practicals Plumbing, 120 Hours (Optional Extra, Done On-Campus)
You can complete 3 weeks of optional practical hours within your field of study. This is done just after either N1 or before N3 and will count towards your practical hours required to write the trade test.

This program is aimed at providing the student with the plumbing ability and knowledge to be equipped for an apprenticeship and be able to fit into a contractor’s environment.

  • Module 1: Hand Tools – uses and care: the basic and essential hand tools used within the Plumbing trade will be covered.
  • Module 2: Plumbing materials – basic recognition of copper, brass, lead, mild steel, cast iron, tin & zinc, aluminium and stainless steels will be demonstrated.
  • Module 3: Water proofing – connections, flashing soldering and welding exercises.
  • Module 4: Construction – basic setting out, joining of connections, hot and cold water supplies installations will be simulated.
