The nature of teaching and learning practices at AIE in a practical studio environment combines traditional lecture-based learning with unique studio practices such as critique, presentations, discussions, and demonstrations. The studio setups require a flexible approach to furniture and equipment planning due to variations in room shape, size, orientation, and access. This guide proposes the establishment of a central delivery and discussion zone within the studio space to facilitate hybrid contact and online sessions. Proposed solutions should be tested in real-world scenarios and follow supplier and manufacturer recommendations.

The premise of the setup is a central discussion table utilizing the Logitech Rally PTZ camera and microphones. The camera is placed toward the front of the class to allow for a view of either the lecturer or in-class activities. The microphones are spread out along the central table to allow for class discussion.
Audio-visual equipment and associated technologies should augment and facilitate both the contact and online learning experience, providing an equitable experience for both, especially around the engagement with student work. The technological infrastructure enables students to see and hear clearly, both during synchronous and asynchronous delivery of sessions.

Technology, both hardware and software, work toward retaining the fluidity of studio-based education, and reduce the friction experienced in online environments. Software platforms should be progressive and extensible, in line with the move toward open and collaborative systems.
The studio creates a comfortable and productive working environment for a wide variety of inclass teaching and learning activities.
